BPIF Cartons makes a Pitch
BPIF’s Carton Conference, held at London’s Business Design Centre, will include the final of a marketing competition that aims to explore how social media channels can benefit the carton industry. The competition, organised in association with The Chartered Institute of Marketing, invited students to submit a ‘Pitch’ which would allow the judges to form a short-list for the final.
In total, nine student groups, all studying marketing, entered with the best four submissions being judged by the audience at October’s Carton Conference. Each group will present their ‘Pitch’ and the audience will vote electronically for the best overall proposal.
Jason Short, part of BPIF Carton’s marketing team, said, “Many of us use social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, in our personal lives but they also have a growing value to business. We want to be portrayed as a modern, forward thinking industry so it’s important that we explore the potential of these new media channels. The students who took part have produced some innovative, exciting and well-researched strategies so I’m looking forward to seeing the final result.”
The short-listed teams will provide insights on how carton packaging and social media can interact in order to provide ongoing benefits. Each campaign will attempt to address the need to grow, educate and improve awareness and submit ideas to extend the use of traditional carton board into new markets.
Jason, continued, “The competition has helped to elicit some really bright, fresh ideas. It’s been a real chance for the student’s to enhance their CVs with a real-life brief. The experience has been informative and enjoyable for all participants.”
Each member of the winning team will receive 12 months membership of The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), whilst their institution will be awarded the CIM Shield for a year.
The Carton Conference enjoys a strong link with the easyFairs Packaging Innovations exhibition which immediately follows the conference. This link basically means delegates get two worthwhile events under the same roof at the same time. Anyone wishing to attend can register their details on the website.
